Experience:

Bill served as co-founder and as an in-house business lawyer for Portland, Oregon based WorldVoice, an innovator of VoIP and unified messaging technology applications. He oversaw all aspects of human resources, facilities management, contract negotiations, patent portfolio management, and mergers and acquisitions. As corporate counsel, Bill's leadership in contract negotiations with large corporate entities, including Microsoft, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and Speechworks, led to successful negotiations of multi-million dollar lines of credit, closed sales transactions in the same range and managed the ongoing protection of valuable trade secrets.

He went on to found Du Val Business Law in Portland, Oregon, where the firm and its staff of experienced business lawyers serve their Portland, Oregon-and-Washington-based clients. A native Portlander, Bill Du Val enjoys a substantial contacts network. His ability to provide sound legal and business advice regarding small business and technology related issues is enhanced by his assertive manner to introduce and match ambitious entrepreneurs with the appropriate vendors, partners, customers and investors.

Personal Statement:

"In 2001 I founded Du Val Business Law in a beautiful mansion on King's Hill in SW Portland, Oregon. The Portland market needed a non-traditional law firm that would serve the needs of business owners in a high-quality, affordable, responsive, and accessible manner. I had been a business owner and operator myself for years and experienced first-hand what I needed, and what I didn't, in a business lawyer. I set out to create a firm of lawyers who had business ownership experience themselves, won't be subject to aggressive billable hour requirements, and who would be highly responsive to their clients. This vision has resonated in Portland, Oregon and Southwest Washington and has resulted in not merely an extremely high client retention rate, but also - to my pleasant surprise - the best referral base I could ask for."
